The Michelangelo Effect

Michelangelo famously saw figures in stone before he sculpted figures. He saw the potential in the stone and felt like he was revealing figures rather than creating them. The Michelangelo Effect occurs when a person sees the good in another individual and that person starts to embody those characteristics.

This project explores art as a tool for personal transformation with natural themes to suggest change and the practical outcomes to encourage it. The short film, ‘The Michelangelo Effect,’ displays the change a personal can experience with the poetic editing of archival footage. The ‘Week of Kindness Toolkit’ features work that encourages positive change. Through a letter-writing kit, compliment cards, and a kindness colouring sheet, the audience is encouraged to do kind deeds every day for a week.
